Picking Paint...

Many of us have
taken a trip to the paint store
thought we purchased
the perfect paint color
we didn't.

Here are some common mistakes we make that we should keep in mind while picking paint colors.

Mistake #1: Picking your paint color first - by choosing your paint color last it will allow you to pick a color that will support the fabrics, pillows & furniture you've chosen. If you pick paint first you will find yourself limited which may lead to frustration when putting your room together.

Mistake #2: Choosing too bright of a color tone - often brighter colors are best used for accent pieces like pillows, vases & artwork. You need to decide what you want your focal point to be & if it's brightly colored walls then you need to keep everything else very neutral or white.

Mistake #3: Not considering the house as a whole - you need to consider how the colors will flow with the rest of the rooms in your home. You want a nice transition between rooms. Bring in similar color tones into each room in order to keep continuity.

Mistake #4: Emotional color choice - disconnect between what you like & what your wanting. A great example would be loving the color red & deciding to paint your bedroom this color. You may in fact want your bedroom to be a relaxing space thus you need to consider using a more subdued paint color. Just because we love certain color tones does not necessarily mean we should paint our walls those colors. Consider using your favorite colors as accents in the room.

Mistake #5: Not paying attention to trends - you do not necessarily need to keep up with trends because they do change quite quickly but you should pay attention to them. Oftentimes you can add trendy accent pieces to your existing rooms to stay "in style".
