Should 

I paint my front door

 black?

A 

black front door 

can be both elegant 

& 

dramatic. 

It 

works well with all other

 color palettes. 

The

 only thing to keep in mind

 is if you don't have contrasting colors

 to act as a backdrop, 

black may make your entry

 feel dark which isn't what 

you want for your

 curb appeal. 

In 

the picture shown above

 the black door

 is definitely dramatic but is offset nicely

 with the white trim

 &

 railings.

Other 

great tips to keep in mind 

when decorating your 

front step or porch:

- your garage door doesn't need to be painted to match your front door but they should blend.

- choose a larger light fixture for your front door area.

- add a mailbox for decoration.

- choose house numbers in a contrasting color.

- make your home seem larger by adding flower pots in the same or similar color as your front door.

- select door hardware that you love. There are many styles & finishes to choose from such as gold, bronze, nickel, chrome & black.

- paint is easy to change so don't worry about making a mistake with the color, you can always change it.

When designing a stylish outdoor space, you need to consider:

Scale: measure your area so you can purchase furniture that fits your yard or patio. You need to leave a lot of room for you & your guests to move around.

Style: continue using your indoor style outdoors.

Focal Point: you need a focal point to anchor your eye just like your interior rooms. This could be an outdoor fountain, fire pit, established tree or a garden area.

Comfort & Durability: purchase the best furniture & accessories that you can afford. This will save you money in the long run by not having to replace them often.

Decorating 

in a neutral color palette

 is great but often a room needs 

a punch of color. 

Here 

are some effective ways 

to add just the right amount of color

 to every room.

Bedroom: add some colorful bedding & throw pillows.

Bathroom: wallpaper a wall or add some new towels or shower curtain in a trendy color.

Living room: area rugs, bright curtains or a vase of fresh flowers are a sure way to brighten up a living room.

Kitchen: paint mason jars & display them on open shelving, update stools and chairs or add some new dishes in your favorite color & pattern.

Kitchen Layouts...

We 

recently renovated our kitchen

 &

 it was a bit of a challenge

 to decide on

 a kitchen layout.

After 

removing the wall that was 

separating the kitchen

 &

 living room it was time to 

finalize the new design

 for the kitchen.

Finally

after flipping through many 

magazine pics 

& 

a lot of online research 

we decided on a single wall kitchen

 with a large island. 

We 

loved the openness of the room 

once the wall came down 

& 

decided to keep the open concept through

 the whole main floor.

Here's a little info on four basic kitchen design layouts:

The

 Galley style kitchen

 is a great option for smaller spaces 

&

 for clients who do not like an 

open concept space. 

Note, 

you need at least 42 inches 

between your countertops on either side

 to allow the proper opening 

of cabinet doors

 & 

appliances. 

Even

 though the space is smaller

 don't be afraid to add a 

splash of color with tiled backsplash.

An

L-shaped kitchen 

with an island is a great layout 

for adding a lot of 

storage space. 

An

 island adds extra room

 for storage, prep 

& 

entertaining.

The

 island also acts as a divider 

while allowing people in the kitchen to 

interact with everyone else.

 Consider 

a flat island countertop 

instead of a raised breakfast bar

 to allow for a 

nice open prep space.

If 

your needing a lot of storage space

 then the U-shaped layout

 is for you.

With

 three walls of cabinets 

you gain a lot of extra storage

 & 

prep space.

Remember 

when adding an island

 in this type of kitchen that it doesn't

 affect the workflow.

The 

Single Wall kitchen layout 

works very well if you are trying to create an 

open concept space. 

With

 the cabinets installed only on one wall,

 it doesn't take up much floor space

 &

 visually lengthens the room. 

Keep in mind 

this type of kitchen needs to be placed

 where there are 

no windows or doors. 

If

 you have the room

 add a long island for extra storage

 &

 prep space.

colors, shapes & sizes.

Plant 

them in terra cotta pots 

filled with colored rocks for a

 punch of color.

Find

 small vases and plant a 

collection of succulents & display them 

on a tray on your 

coffee table.

Fill 

vintage soda crates

 &

 painted mason jars 

with succulents.

They

make the perfect addition 

to an outdoor patio 

or a 

dining room centerpiece.

Planting 

& 

displaying succulents 

will add visual interest 

&

 dimension to every part of your home.
